Abstract

The sexuality of a patient infused with hematopoietic stem cells is being the subject to a lot of doubts, identified from the health professionals, in the patient, by the time of his clinical discharge. The acknowledge of the specificities and reluctance to this theme, indicates a deficit on education and counseling; taking as objective an effective actuation in the identified problem, a exploratory study with qualitative character was realized, by inquiring, in a way the nurses relatively to the behaviors, attitudes and beliefs in the healthcares concerning the sexuality of the transplanted patient. It was verified that 38% of the nurses had advance the questions about sexuality to less than 20% of the total patients, cared by them from the past six months; 52% of the inquired referred “little knowledge” bout this issue has a motive of discomfort in this approach, caused also from the stress that this matter cause to them. Once the needs were identified, a training program to mitigate the deficits was settled.
