Fundamental Ethical-Legal Principles

  Statement of Ethics

To improve the journal quality, we value maintaining high ethical standards in publishing articles in Onco.News Journal. In our editorial activity, we are working towards adopting the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing created by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA). You can find these principles at http://publicationethics.org/files/u7140/Principles_of_Transparency_and_Best_Practice_in_Scholarly_Publishing.pdf.

We are still working towards adopting the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors, visible at http://publicationethics.org/files/Code_of_conduct_for_journal_editors.pdf

Ethical and professional considerations

Articles with a political profile or articles with biased or incorrect assessments of other scientific works and experts are not accepted for publication. We maintain a double-blind peer-review process and have reviewers with high academic qualifications and practical experience in oncology nursing. Our priority is scientifically innovative articles with fundamental importance for oncology nursing. We value applied research as well as an evidence-based practice.

Misleading publication

Articles must be original and must not include manipulated data or fraudulent information. Papers should describe results as accurately as possible and avoid using statements of opinion as facts. The manuscript must present the results directly and not mislead the reader or generate misunderstandings. It is essential to analyze the meaning of the results, and, at the same time, it is necessary not to over-interpret the results. An overinterpretation or bias will not contribute to scientific advances and mislead readers.

Ethical standards for publication in the Journal

Publishing an article in a peer-reviewed journal is essential to developing a coherent and respected knowledge network. That directly reflects the quality of the authors' work and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles help and embody the scientific method. It is essential to reach a consensus on norms of ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publication: author, editor-in-chief, reviewer, editor and society. The Editorial Board of Revista Onco.News takes its supervisory duties over all editing stages seriously and recognizes our ethical responsibilities. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprinting or other commercial income does not impact or influence editorial decisions. In addition, Onco.News Magazine and its Editorial Board will help in contacting other magazines and/or editors whenever it is valuable and necessary.

Protection of Research Participants and Informed Consent

Onco.News support a protection and research participants in agreement with the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) policies for http://www.icmje.org/recommendations/browse/roles-and-responsibilities/protection-of-research-participants.html.

When reporting investigations involving human data, authors must indicate whether the procedures followed were evaluated by an ethics committee (institutional and national), or, in the absence of a formal ethics committee, authors must state that the procedures were following the Declaration of Helsinki, revised in 2013.

If there is doubt the investigation was carried out following the Declaration of Helsinki, the authors must explain their approach to the study and demonstrate that the institution has approved all aspects of the study. Approval by an ethics committee does not preclude the editor from forming their judgment about the appropriateness of the research.

Patients have a right to privacy. That must not be violated without informed consent. Identifying information, including names, initials, or hospital numbers, should not be published in written descriptions, photographs, or genealogy unless the information is essential for scientific purposes and the patient (or legal guardian) gives written informed consent to publication authorization. Informed consent for this purpose requires that the content be shown to an identifiable patient before the article is published.

Non-essential identifying details must be omitted. Informed consent must be obtained on the possibility of identification if there is doubt that anonymity cannot be maintained. For example, masking the eye region in patient photographs is inadequate protection of anonymity. If identifying features are visible, authors should ensure that participants have been asked to consent to such disclosure. The editor will note that changes to identifying characteristics do not distort scientific meaning.

Authors' Responsibilities

Authors must ensure that their articles are honest, transparent, accurate, complete, and balanced. Should avoid misleading, selective, or ambiguous information. Regarding authors' duties, we adopted the position statement Responsible research publication: international standards for authors created at the 2nd World Conference on Scientific Integrity. These standards are available at http://publicationethics.org/files/International%20standards_authors_for%20website_11_Nov_2011.pdf

Editor-in-Chief Responsabilities

The Editorial Coordinator should consider himself an integral member of the wider professional editorial community, keep himself informed of the most relevant policies and developments, and ensure that his editorial team is adequately trained and informed on relevant issues. Regarding duties, we adopted the position statement Responsible research publication: international standards for editors was created at the 2nd World Conference on Scientific Integrity in http://publicationethics.org/files/International%20standard_editors_for%20website_11_Nov_2011.pdf.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers play a central and fundamental role in the peer-review process. This process plays an essential role in ensuring the integrity of the Journal. The process depends, to a large extent, on established trust and requires that all involved act responsibly and ethically. Regarding reviewers' duties, we have adopted the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers. These standards are available at http://publicationethics.org/files/Peer%20review%20guidelines.pdf.

Declaration of Good Publishing Practices

Academic misconduct (plagiarism, fraud, infringement of intellectual property rights, etc.) in any form will not be tolerated by the journal. In these cases, we will form a panel to assess the content of the complaint. If the claim is based on evidence, the article in question will be rejected from consideration for publication in Revista Onco.News. The authors and their institutions will be informed. Suppose the article has already been published before the misconduct has been identified. In that case, a retraction will be required from the authors or the editorial board of the Journal, and the case will be made public.
