Research Data Policy
1. Definition of research data
The policy applies to research data necessary to verify the research results reported in papers submitted to Onco.News journal. Research data includes data produced by the authors ("primary data") and data from other sources that are analyzed by the authors ("secondary data"). Research data includes any material used to produce the results in both digital and non-digital format. This includes tabular data, code, images, audio, documents, video, maps, raw and/or processed data.
2. Exceptions
This policy only covers research data that is necessary to verify published results. The policy does not require the public sharing of quantitative or qualitative data that can identify a research participant ("personal data"), unless the participants have consented to it. The policy also does not require the public sharing of other sensitive data. Alternatives to the public sharing of sensitive or personal data include:
- Deposit of research data in controlled access repositories;
- Anonymization or de-identification of data prior to its public sharing;
- Only sharing metadata about research data;
- Identification of the procedures for access to research data in the submitted work and manage requests for access to the data of other researchers.
3. Embargo periods
Embargoes on data sharing are permitted.
4. Additional materials
The sharing of data as supplementary information files is discouraged.
5. Data repositories
It is recommended to deposit in a data repository with a long-term file preservation plan and registration of persistent identifiers. It is recommended to use the re3data.org portal to find one or to use a generalist repository such as Zenodo.
6. Citation of research data
Onco.News encourages authors to cite any publicly available research data in their reference list. Information shall be provided on where the data associated with the article are located and on the conditions under which they can be accessed. The DOI, another persistent identifier, or URL should also be provided where applicable.
7. License of research data
Onco.News encourages the availability of research data under open licenses (e.g., Creative Commons Licenses) that allow its free reuse. The journal does not claim copyright on the research data.
8. Support to authors, researchers
Questions about compliance with this policy should be sent to geral@dmpublish.com.
9. Declaration of data availability
Onco.News encourages authors to include, in articles reporting results derived from research data, a Data Availability Statement. The Data Availability Statement should include information on where data can be found in support of the results reported in the article, including, where applicable, links to the datasets analyzed or generated during the study. When research data are not publicly available, this should be stated in the manuscript, together with the conditions of access to the data. The Statement of Availability of Research Data shall take one of the following forms (or a combination of more than one, if necessary, for multiple types of research data):
- The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the ongoing study are available in the repository [NAME], [PERSISTENT LINK].
- The datasets generated and/or analyzed during this study are not available to the public due to [REASON WHY THE DATA ARE NOT PUBLIC], but are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.
- The datasets generated and/or analyzed during the ongoing study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.
- Data sharing does not apply to this article as no datasets were generated or analyzed during the ongoing study.
- All data generated or analyzed during this study are included in this published article [and its supplementary information files].
- Data supporting the results of this study are available on [behalf of third parties] but restrictions apply to the availability of these data, which were used under license for the ongoing study and are therefore not available to the public. However, the data is made available by the authors upon reasonable request and with the permission of [third party name].
Note: This policy follows the guidance of the Data Policy Toolkit for Publishers and Scientific Journals, of the PUB IN project, available here: https://www.pubin.pt/apoio/toolkit-de-politicas-de-dados-para-editoras-e-revistas-cientificas/?seq_no=2
